IPTV Price per Month: Is a Yearly Plan Really Cheaper?: IPTV Cyprus guide

“Pay for a year and save” is the oldest line in subscription marketing. Sometimes it is true; sometimes it is a way to take your money for months you will not use. The honest answer depends on three numbers: the price per month, the break-even point and the cost per day. This guide explains each one and shows how to use them.

Why price per month is the fairest comparison

Headline prices are hard to compare because they cover different lengths of time. €59 and €12 are not comparable until you divide each by the number of months it covers. That gives the price per month, the one figure that lets you compare any two offers like for like.

For our plans:

PlanYou payPrice per month
1 Month€12€12.00
3 Months€30€10.00
6 Months€47€7.83
12 Months€59€4.92

On this measure the yearly plan is clearly the cheapest. But price per month assumes you watch for the whole plan, and that is where the other two numbers come in.

The break-even point: when a longer plan starts saving money

The break-even point is the number of months after which a longer plan becomes cheaper than paying month by month. To find it, divide the longer plan’s price by the monthly price and round up.

  • 3 Months plan: breaks even after 3 months.
  • 6 Months plan: breaks even after 4 months.
  • 12 Months plan: breaks even after 5 months.

Put simply: if you will watch for at least 5 months of the next twelve, the yearly plan costs less than paying monthly. Every month you watch beyond that is a month you would otherwise have paid €12 for.

The hidden risk: stopping early

The catch with any upfront plan is that the money is spent whether you watch or not. So ask yourself honestly: how likely am I to stop?

Here is what happens if you buy the yearly plan for €59 but stop watching early, compared with paying monthly for only the months you used:

If you watch for Paying monthly 12 Months plan Cheaper option
2 months €24 €59 Paying monthly
4 months €48 €59 Paying monthly
5 months €60 €59 12 Months plan, by €1
8 months €96 €59 12 Months plan, by €37
12 months €144 €59 12 Months plan, by €85

The pattern is clear. If there is a real chance you will stop within the first few months, for example because you might move, a shorter plan protects you. If you are confident you will keep watching, the yearly plan wins.

Cost per day: the number that puts it in perspective

Breaking the price down to a daily cost is a useful sanity check, especially for a household:

  • 1 Month: about €0.39 a day
  • 3 Months: about €0.33 a day
  • 6 Months: about €0.26 a day
  • 12 Months: about €0.16 a day

Shared across a family, the daily cost of the yearly plan per person is very small, which is why it suits busy households who watch most evenings.

When paying monthly really is the cheaper choice

Despite the maths above, the 1 Month plan is the right choice in several situations:

  • A short stay. In Cyprus for two or three weeks? There is no point paying for months you will be away.
  • Trying online TV for the first time. One month at €12 lets you check the picture on your own TV and internet line before committing.
  • Uncertain plans. If you might move house, change internet provider or leave the island soon, flexibility is worth more than the saving.
  • Cash flow. Sometimes a smaller payment now matters more than a lower total later. That is a perfectly sensible reason.

Cost per day is also a helpful way to sense-check any offer you see elsewhere: divide the price by the number of days it covers and compare the results side by side.

The middle options

The 3 and 6 Months plans exist for people in between. The 3 Months plan breaks even after 3 months and suits a summer stay or a single term. The 6 Months plan breaks even after 4 months and suits anyone who spends half the year in Cyprus.

How to compare price per month across any offers

The same method works for any TV or streaming offer, not just ours:

  1. Find the total you pay for the plan.
  2. Divide by the number of months it covers. That is the price per month.
  3. Check whether every plan includes the same features. If the cheaper plan leaves things out, the comparison is not fair.
  4. Look for later price rises. An introductory rate that doubles after a month makes a low price per month meaningless.
  5. Work out the break-even point against the monthly option, and compare it with how long you expect to watch.

Write the results side by side. The cheapest offer is the one with the lowest price per month for the length you will actually use.

A worked example: a holiday-home owner

Imagine you spend about four months a year in Cyprus, in two visits of two months each. Your options with us look like this:

  • Paying monthly for each month you are here: four payments, €48 in total.
  • Two 3 Months plans, one per visit: two payments of €30, which also covers two months you will not be here.
  • One 12 Months plan: €59, covering the year even while you are away.

At four months a year, paying monthly is the cheapest choice, because you are below the yearly plan’s break-even point of 5 months. If your stays grew to five months or more, the yearly plan would become the better deal. This is exactly why the break-even number is so useful.

What if prices change later?

Any provider can change its prices for future orders. With us, a change never affects a plan you have already paid for, so a yearly plan locks in today’s price for the whole twelve months. That is a small extra advantage of paying up front if you are sure you will watch. Monthly payers simply pay whatever the 1 Month price is each time they renew.

A quick decision rule

  1. Count the months you are confident you will watch in the next year.
  2. Fewer than 3? Choose 1 Month and renew as you go.
  3. A single season? Choose 3 Months.
  4. Around half the year? Choose 6 Months.
  5. 5 months or more? Choose 12 Months for the lowest cost.

Whatever you decide, write the end date of your plan in your calendar. Most of the money people waste on subscriptions comes from forgetting when they renew, not from choosing the wrong length in the first place. A two-minute reminder is the simplest saving of all.
